چکیده

2014 Fast electron energy loss spectroscopy (FEELS) is used to obtain the various optical constants over a large energy range in Sc, Sc2O3, Y, Y2O3, Gd, Gd2O3, Dy, LaF3, GdF3, DyF3, Th, ThF4, U and UF4. For the first time a comprehensive study of the 3p to 6p spectra is performed in the 30-60 eV range, Z varying between 21 and 92. Interesting common features of these resonant p spectra are emphasized and discussed in the light of recent theoretical work. Below 30 eV, strong interband transitions are observed in the wide gap insulators (oxides and fluorides), while the metal spectra are dominated by collective or plasmon excitations. At higher energies, 4d-lanthanide and 5d-actinide spectra are compared with X-UV photoabsorption measurements. J. Physique 41 (1980) 603-613 JUILLET 1980,

Atomic, Ionic and Bohr Radii Linked via the Golden Ratio for Elements of Groups 1 - 8 including Lanthanides and Actinides

In an earlier article, atomic radii of elements of Groups 1A 8A were shown to be proportional to their Bohr radii obtained from the first ionization potentials and the constants of proportionality were shown to be simple functions of the Golden ratio. Here it is shown that the above finding holds also for elements of Groups 1B 8B including Lanthanides and Actinides. All the relevant data are pr...

Sorption speciation of lanthanides/actinides on minerals by TRLFS, EXAFS and DFT studies: a review.

Lanthanides/actinides sorption speciation on minerals and oxides by means of time resolved laser fluorescence spectroscopy (TRLFS), extended X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy (EXAFS) and density functional theory (DFT) is reviewed in the field of nuclear disposal safety research. The theoretical aspects of the methods are concisely presented. Examples of recent research results of la...

Tip influence on plasmon excitations in single gold particles in an STM

Photon-emission spectra have been measured for individual titania-supported gold particles excited by the electron current from an STM tip. Depending on the interaction strength between tip and cluster, the emission behavior changes from excitations with Mie-plasmon character at 2.3 eV to modes of tip-induced plasmons at 1.8 eV. The strong tip influence on plasmon excitations in Au particles re...

EPR of Uranium. Ions

Actinides, the last known group of the Periodic Table are the subject of a special interest, both practical and scientific. Though their use is mainly based on their unique nuclear properties, the electronic structure is of no little interest because it is of paramount importance in determining the physical and chemical properties of the actinides and their compounds. Despite the common tendenc...

Synthesis and Spectral Studies on Thorium (IV) Coordination Compounds of 4-[N-(2-Hydroxybenzalidene)amino] AntipyrineSmeicarbazone and 4-[N-Cinnamalidene) amino] ANtipyrine Semicarbazone

The stereochemistry of the actinide elements has recently undergone considerable development and a wide variety of coordination numbers and geometries have been observed. This structural versatility arises from the lack of strong crystal field effects for the 5f-electronic configurations as well as from the large ionic radii of these metal ions, which change markedly with oxidation number, ...
